Different Factors That You Should Consider
Before Adopting A Dog Or Puppy

History of the Dog or Pedigree & BloodLines of a Puppy

When you are adopting from a Rescue, it is extremely important to learn about the Dog's history. However, this is the most difficult aspect to dig into since nobody tells the truth. The previous owners who have relinquished the dog never reveal why exactly are they leaving the dog and very often the rescue shelters also do not furnish complete information

However, if you are buying a puppy from a reputable breeder, you stand a chance of getting some information about the bloodlines and pedigree of the puppy.

Take your copy of "Super Dogs and Puppies". From Page 41 of this e-book, learn the exclusive tips on how to get an insight into the dog's history & pedigree. Also, check out the professional tips on how to locate a reputable and ethical breeder, how to get a healthy, happy dog or puppy...and lots more!!

Costs of Adopting & Raising A Puppy or Dog

The purchase price for a dog can vary tremendously by breed and source, and is NOT the only the initial expense incurred for a dog.

You will need to arrange for a dog bed, crate, some toys and other accessories before you get the dog or puppy home. Also, dogs need high quality food, proper housing, mental stimulation (e.g., toys, play time), and regular visits to a veterinarian for preventive care. Other costs may include emergency medical treatment, grooming, boarding, identification, licensing, sterilization (spaying or neutering), training, and accessories.

Pet health insurance is available and can help defray unexpected expenses resulting from illness or injury.

Present Age of the Puppy or Dog

If you are planning to adopt a puppy, you should never take in a puppy before it is 8 weeks old. Puppies need more care and training than older dogs. Hhousebreaking the puppy, cleaning up the poop, soaking up stains and removing odor will become a part of your life till the puppy gets fully housebroken. And all this will need more effort and time on your part.

Although some older dogs also need to be housebroken, they are much easily handled than the puppies. However, if the older dog was abused or mistreated by his previous dog owners, you will have to work towards gaining his trust and training and socialising him from scratch.

Whether you adopt a dog or puppy, it is important that you know it's exact age. This will help you understand its needs much better.

Size of the Dog

If you are adopting an older dog, you already know what is its size (height and weight).

However, if you are adopting a puppy or a mixed breed dog, you will have to ascertain what will it's size be as an adult dog

Larger dogs require more space than smaller ones, and may be harder to maintain in an apartment or condominium. Regardless of the size of your dog, it must be provided with access to the outdoors multiple times a day for elimination and exercise. A dog usually lives between 10 to 15 years. With good care, diet, grooming, affection and love you can help your dog live long and lead a healthy life.

Will your new dog be compatible with your kids and other pets at Home

NO child should be expected to fully care for a pet, until they are mature enough to take care of themselves. No matter what a child promises, they ARE only children, and will need help from their parents.

Whether a dog will adjust with the kids of a family and the other pets, depends on a lot of factors. If the new dog has a happy and friendly personality, it will adjust easily. It also depends on the pack behavior that your other dog created with the new dog.
