Which Dog Will Suit Your Lifestyle & Home Environment?
Let
me tell you two real-life scenarios that had come to my notice around 6 months back. 2 separate incidents that had made me really think hard.
Case
I :
A retired elderly couple living
alone in a quaint little house wanted a dog to give
them company. They liked a Boxer puppy that their neighbors owned and they also brought home a Boxer without taking into
consideration the dog's temperament. A Boxer needs lot of
exercise. But they failed to provide the dog with the amount
of playing and running he needed to vent out his energy. A
few months later when the poor dog resorted to excessive barking
and chewing, they had to give up the dog to a Shelter.
Case
II :
A
couple had brought home a Chihuahua without doing any kind
of pre-research on the breed. They bought the dog ONLY because
they found it cute. That was the biggest mistake. They had
a kid of their own. As kids are, he was playing with the dog.
The Chi was on his lap and while playing the dog accidentally
fell down on the floor. The poor dog had a incurable bone
fracture. Tired of repeated vet visits and soaring bills,
they sent the dog to the Shelter. Chihuahuas are not suitable
for families who have little kids at home.
Both
these families had not done enough research on the dog they brought
home. You need to first consider which dog will suit your
family and lifestyle. Every dog breed and every dog
group have their own characteristics and needs. To get a better picture
of a dog's needs and demands and to avoid such heart-wrenching situations, Get "Super Dogs and Puppies" Now.
Among the purebreed dogs, the Toy Dogs and the Retrievers are the
most popular groups, followed by the Hound dogs.
Toy
dogs include Chihuahua, Shih Tzu, Yorkshire Terrier, Pomeranian, Maltese and other small dogs. They make ideal pets for apartment dwellers and for those
with smaller living spaces. In general, Toy dogs are delightful
characters, and can be lively, playful, entertaining, and
very loyal. Most of them crave for constant love and attention
from their owners.
Retrievers
like the Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever are very popular dogs. They are the two most popular breeds now in the US and are very lovable and friendly
companions. They have a lot of energy and active minds. They are easily
trained, loyal, confident, sweet and eager to please. They
thrive on human contact and can become mischievous if left
alone for long periods of time.
The
Hound Dogs include Beagle, Dachshund, Basset Hound, GreyHound, BloodHound etc. They are generally friendly and are excellent
hunting dogs. They want to please you and be with you, unless
they see or smell a rabbit. They have incredible energy and
stamina, and can go great distances in very short time. Mostly,
Hounds have no idea where they have been, so,
if they get outside your fence, they will soon be lost and
may never find their way home. A good fence is essential for
Hounds. A secure leash is a must for any time the dog is outside
the fence, that includes the car too.
There are other dogs like the Boxers, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Bull Dogs etc. which have their own characteristics and temperament. To learn more about 159 dog breeds, Get Your Copy of "Super Dogs" and "Puppies"- Gold Package

Mixed
breeds like the Chi-Poo, Bichon Yorkie, Shih-Poo, Labradoodle, Pomapoo etc. are gaining popularity very fast. But, I think they are quite unpredictable. You can't
predict what a mixed breed will look or act like because a
mixed breed is not necessarily a mix of purebreds. In a pure
bred dog you'll be able to judge its characteristics beforehand.
But it will be very difficult to analyze the true nature of
a mixed breed dog.
