Adopting And Owning A Dog Is A Commitment For The Next 10 - 15 Years
A common
reason for people bringing dogs into their households is obvious
– someone sees a cute puppy or dog, which they like
very much and which is available and they bring it home. As
simple as that. The love and affection that
springs up within you when you see a particular person or
animal first off is probably the chemistry that is likely
to work best.
But
remember, this is not a one-day exercise. You are going to
be your dog’s parent for the whole of his life, which,
for many dogs is 10 to 15 years. If it is a puppy that you
are bringing in, you have to be prepared to go through the
entire life cycle of the dog with its attendant joys, sorrows,
trials and tribulations.

Training
him, seeing to his needs when he is little, right up to the
time when your aging dog may be on medication and may need
your help to even move. It is a labor-intensive and tiring
job and you will have to forego many a party and tailor your
movements to suit the needs of your pet. Don’t even
attempt to take on a dog in your household if you are a clean
freak.
There
will be many times when your puppy will poop and pee all over
the house and you will have to clean the muck. Don’t
take him on if you are basically lazy and don’t like
too much activity. Don’t take him on if you love vacations
and often travel for weeks or months at a stretch.
A
dog needs regular grooming that will keep him healthy. To
reduce shedding, groom your dog often. The dog will love it
and it gives you and your dog special time together. Clean
its coat to bring back the luster and shine to it, clean its
eyes so that it stays clear of dirt and clean its ears so
that it stays free of wax and dirt.
You
need to keep your dog's vaccinations up to date. This typically
requires only one or two visits a year to the vet. This will
keep your dog healthy and away from fatal diseases. Dogs need
ample of exercise and work out sessions to exert their physical
energy.
Feed
a balanced and healthy nutritious diet to your dog. Select
a high-quality dog food that's appropriate for your dog's
age, weight, activity level or size. Make sure to feed your
dog dry food as well as moist canned food to help keep his
teeth clean. Avoid overfeeding, since obesity can lead to
a variety of medical problems, including musculoskeletal problems,
and can aggravate hip dysplasia (abnormal growth or development
of the hip joint). Avoid feeding him table scraps.
